What is Quokka.js for VSCode?
Quokka.js lets you quickly prototype JavaScript or TypeScript code with a developer productivity tool. Runtime values are displayed alongside your code in your IDE as you type.
Quokka makes prototyping, learning, and testing JavaScript / TypeScript lightning quick. By default, there is no configuration required. To experiment, open a Quokka file. Focus on writing code, not creating configuration files.
Quokka will run your code in VS Code and WebStorm. This allows you to avoid context switching while still using your favorite editor and its extensions. You can also import and run modules or files from your project.
The Wallaby.js Team brought it to you. While working on Wallaby.js, our team faced thousands of complicated situations. These include the execution and instrumentation of JavaScript codes. Quokka, a technology similar to Wallaby.js, allows for years of research and development without any cost. Everyone is welcome to download the Quokka "Community Edition" for free.
The Pro edition is a commercial edition that offers advanced features such as displaying and exploring runtime values without having to modify your code. If you're a JavaScript ninja and want the same live editing experience for writing unit tests, Wallaby.js might be right for you.
Quokka.js for VSCode Great Features:
Live Execution and Results
Code executes immediately when you save changes. There is no need for you to switch context manually. The error messages that were generated are displayed next to the code. Inline console logs and identifier Expression values are also displayed.
Live coverage
The indicator in the gutter of the code editor is constantly updated to show code coverage. This allows you to quickly see which lines are responsible for an error and which lines are not.
Value Explorer
Value Explorer lets you view and explore non-primitive runtime value in an easy-to-navigate real-time treeview. This is a great feature for larger objects, and it makes debugging faster and easier. You can copy opened paths/values directly to the clipboard.
Live Comments and Values
You can show and copy expression values using editor commands or by selecting them in the editor. These commands are accessible via keyboard shortcuts. You can also use a particular comment format to evaluate expressions, and it allows you to measure the execution time of code.
Project Files Import
Any files you have in your Quokka project file can be imported. Quokka will monitor your project files for any changes and update you when the dependent files change. For the compilation of imported files, TypeScript or Babel may be used.
Profiling of CPUs
CPU Profiler lets you quickly track the CPU usage of your code to evaluate its runtime performance. When you click on any links that refer to your project files, they will open in your editor.
Install Quick Package
You can quickly install any node package by using your editor. You can choose to install only the Quokka session or your entire project.
